The only thing I can add to the suggestions already made also concerns
that first movement.  I have heard a lot of performances where an
extreme contrast is made between the chorale sections and the "Volles
Werk" passages.  I don't think the chorale is intended to be some
distant echo sounded on a flauto dolce celeste.  The movement loses its
integration - I have a recording in soom big cathedral where you can't
even hear the first few chorale notes on each entrance because it
is drowned out by the fortissimo dying away.
 
Getting that contrast registered nicely is really what makes the 1st
movement work.
