When did a 102-year-old tracker get a crescendo pedal? I would suggest
asking the organ technician who maintains the instrument what to put on
the card, ie. the things that need to be returned to the 'off'
position. A mechanical swell box should be left open, of course, but
I've known a few situations where it was safer for the instrument to
leave it closed at certain times.
A card is a great idea, especially if it's something they have to
return perhaps with a signature on it, along with the key, with
check-offs of what they've done turning things on and off, including
lights, fans, locking doors, etc. Would definitely make most people
somewhat more accountable.
