'Allo -
Somewhere I have a tape of a live broadcast from St.Marks Seattle,
when late Sunday after Compline the then assistant, David Ruberg,
was playing a short recital over the line to KING-FM hosted by
a staff member and member of the choir, John ... ah, the brain
fades.
But not the memory. David was playing the P&F in c, building from
quiet thru loud to full in the usual manner, and arrived at the
couples choruses for the last couple of variations; at the abrupt
break to the fugue, there was suddenly a loud ring remaining in
the building. It seems that someone had opened a wrong door and
set off the - one would have thought - rather loud burgler alarm.
It seemed to have been ringing away thru most of the organ tutti;
unnoticed, and I'm not sure I can detect it on the tape, either.
Mr.Ruberg was, of course, the only one with a key to the system,
and had to leave the bench and jog down the steps while John
tried to explain the goings-on to the radio audience.
So, if you can't afford _both_ a Mixtur VIII _and_ a Sherp XII,
consider a _Zymbelstern Fort_ as a substitute.
