Unless I have missed something, nobody has mentioned the practice of
getting undulation (over a range sufficient for short passages ) by
moving a slider a little from full-on position. I remember this was
common at OHS conventions from 1963 on. Mostly, players of small  19th-c
organs got by without the expense of an extra rank.
