John & Gordon,
Thank you so much for your replies.
I have the Hogwood edition. It has an interesting introduction, a facsimile
and translation of the Privilege from Pope Leo X, a facsimile of the
original alphabetical index page, and facsimiles of several pages of music,
but it does not include information about the original source material, i.e.
the frottole on which the intabulations are based, except that Hogwood's
introduction says that most of the vocal models were provided by Bartolomeo
Tromboncino and Marchetto Cara, and that almost all the originals can be
traced back to Antico's own publications. I was hoping that there might be
more information about the vocal originals, especially the texts which would
give a better idea about what each piece is about.
