Dear Alan,
Perhaps you saw my message on anglicanmusic about the chorale variations I
found in an old Estey.
The melody seems familiar, but not being Lutheran, can't place it. I'm
attaching a pdf, and hope you, the dean of Lutheran organists, may be able
to identify it.
The work is by Henry Smart, and as I reconstructed it I was amazed how much
it is l;ike a Bach
C-P. His counterpoint is excellent, and although there are a few corny
Victorian harmonizations, it is quite a bravura piece and should be a wow on
a concert. The pedalwork is fantastic.
I can't wait to get down to the Mitsukoshi organ (I'm playing once a month
again, having regained enough techniqure and repertoire to please the
unwashed) and try it out. I've completed the
transcribing and it was fun trying to figure out some deteroriated sections
and work around the
"whole " "Hole" note places where the worms had a feast.
Hope you can help me out.
Best regards,
Vic in Tokyo
