I always lurk in the background, but I vacation each summer at Chautauqua
and I am familiar with this organ, since I sing in the Motet Choir (which
sings for morning worship on the weekdays and forms the core of the
Sunday Choir) and I have played the organ on several occasions, having
studied with Jared as the Organ Scholar for two summers. The Chautauqua
organ was originally built by the Warren Organ Company of Woodstock,
Ontario in 1907 with several renovations through the years, the most
recent by Fischer Pipe Organs of Erie, PA from 1992-1993. There should
be a post I did concerning the history of the Chautauqua organ in the
archives. (from 1999 I believe).

Currently, the organ is used mainly for the Sunday worship services
(morning and evening Sacred Song) and for morning worship during the
week. It occasionally is used for symphonic works and there is often one
organ recital each summer. (Fred Swann played there in his farewell
tour). Jared is still the organist and now also choir director for the
Sunday morning choir and motet choir. In addition, Jared plays a short
weekly recital on Wednesdays from 12:15-1:00 on the amphitheater organ.
If you wish to hear the organ, Sundays are free at Chautauqua (there is
no admission--only parking is charged after 1:00 I think). The Wednesday
recitals are not free, but you would pay for a day pass to the grounds
and parking, which costs less than an evening event pass. I don't know
the exact costs, but if OHS wanted to visit and see and hear the organ on
a Wednesday lunch time recital, I am sure something could be arranged.
