One thing I forgot to mention was the fact that the initial PROCESS of
tuning is actually faster on major third chests, and there are far fewer "false
tunings" that way as well.
There are, of course, arguments that chromatic chests have historical
precedent (exempli gratia: keyscale Brustwerk chests, Cavaille-Coll Recits), but
it still does not alter the fact that many organbuilders and experienced
tuners find the speed and subsequent stability of tuning achieved through major
third planting is noticeable and preferable.
