As I was playing through the Trio super: Herr Jesu Christ, dich zu uns wend
BWV 655, I automatically started with my thumb as this subject seems to be
so similar to a simple five finger exercise: g to d, 1-2-3-4-5-1 etc. When
I first studied it decades ago (60's) with a teacher who had spent a year's
study with Leonhardt, I used paired fingerings, 2-3,2-3-4-3-2. etc. It
makes for a rather interesting articulation. But now I think it is much too
fussy. It makes more sense to me now to start with the thumb.
What is the consensus?
