Further to last night's posting, I'd like to add this clarification:

(1) I was actually more offended by the three-dollar candles than I was
the music.

(2) My comments about the guitars, tambourines, etc. were not meant as a
cultural slam. Living in Los Angeles, I am privileged to be exposed to
the music and art of many cultures, and do particularly enjoy Hispanic
beauty. My point was that the music in this church was just plain awful
-- it would have been just as bad, given similar circumstances, whether
it had been Spanish, English, Tagalog or Swahili! I just want to be sure
there is no misunderstanding that I am culturally biased when that is
not at all the case.

Maybe someone oughtta write that church and suggest they take some of
that candle money and hire a competent Latino music director, and get a
better organ, for the Spanish-language masses. (I wonder if the music at
the English and Tagalog services is just as horrific?)
