*This is the first time I had an opportunity to attend the Summer Series at
Methuen this season, I also missed the first recital at the Old West Summer
series due to another Senior moment! Tonight I went to hear Amanda Mole
play, I have had the opportunity to hear play since she was a teenager and
have marveled at her talent. Amanda is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts
degree candidate studying with David Higgs at the Eastman School of Music.
In 2011, Amanda graduated from Yale University with a Master of Music
degree in Organ Performance studying organ with Martin Jean and was the
only candidate in her class to receive the Church Music Studies
Certificate.. Prior to Yale, she obtained a Bachelor of Music Degree with
honors at Eastman while studying with William Porter, and prior to Eastman
she studied with Larry Schipull and Patricia Snyder. In 2015, she was a
featured performer at the New Haven Regional American Guild of Organists
Convention. In 2016 she joined the roster of concert artists at the Organ
Historical Society National Convention in Philadelphia and received
consistent excellent reviews in "The American Organist", "The Diapason",
and "The Tracker" magazines, hailing her as a "rising Star" and describing
her as playing "with authority and flair". Amanda has also been featured
on the radio show :Pipedreams" and has recorded a compact disc on the Naxos
label, Amanda was the first prize winner of the following competitions:
2017 Tokyo International, 2016 Miami International (and audience prize),
2014 Poister, 2014 Rodland, and 2014 Peter B. Knock Award. In 2016 she was
one of "The Diapason" magazine's "Top 20 Under 30". Her programme was:*

*Overture to the Oratorio :Saint Paul" (1836)
                                                    Felix Mendelssohn
(1809-1847)*
*
                                                   Transcribed by William
Thomas Best (1826-1897)*

*Orpheus (1853-1854)

  Franz Liszt (1811-1897) *
*
                                    Transcribed by Alexander Wilhem
Gottschalg (1827-1908)*

*Toccata, Adagio and Fugue in C Major, BWV 564 (c. 1719-1727)
                          Johann Sebastian Bach (1687-1750)*

*Mytò

                Ad Wammes (b. 1953)*

*Studien für den Pedalflügel: Sechs Stücke in kanonischer Form, Op. 56
(1854) William Schumann (1810-1856)*
*           4.  Innig (A-flat Major)*

*Variations sur un thème de Clément Jannequin, JA 118 (1937)
                                              Jehan Alain (1911-1940)*

*La Nativité du Seigneur (1935)

 Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992)*

*As I said at the beginning of this report, I have heard Amanda play for
many years and have always been impressed. Today, her first time
performing here, did an exceptional job. This is not an easy instrument to
play, I am very familiar with this instrument, inside out, having worked on
it while at Andover Organ Co. Amanda did her homework and gave a recital
well worth hearing. She played well, with style and confidence, I am not a
fan of some of the works she played but the audience received them with
enthusiastic applause. The Mendelssohn was well done, its a
hard transcription to play, the Liszt was well received, not a favorite of
mine, it was well played. The Bach was excellent, and registered as well
as can be expected on this organ. The Wammes was wonderful, a fun piece,
to listen to, all appreciated the performance. The Schumann was well
played and registered and I liked the way she presented it. The Alain was
excellent , one of my favorite composers, a great piece. The Messiaen is
one of several of his pieces I enjoy hearing, and Amanda played it well,
with authority. It was an inspiring evening and I was delighted to be
there for it. Brava Amanda!!! The next Wednesday Recital will be Carson
Cooman, Artist in Residence at The Memorial Church, Harvard University.
Recitals start at 8:00 P.M.*

*Cheers,*
*Mack*
