Dear list,
Appologies if this question is perhaps off-topic, but members of this list
are best qualified of anyone to answer...
I find myself responsible for the care of a fine 1930's 3-manual Walker in
an anglican church in Watford, UK.
We have been recently approached by a teenage student from a local school
who wants to use our organ for regular practice. He seems to be quite
gifted.
Our organ has not been used for regularly for private practice by anyone for
a while, other than by our own organists, so we have no established rules or
procedures for this.
Question: is it normal to charge a fee for using an organ for practice ? If
so, how much ? My instinct is that we ought to charge a little to cover the
cost of the electricity, but not so much that we put people off from playing
it.
I would be interested to hear what other UK churches do.
Thanks,
Martin Robinson
