List,
There are at least 2 commas. The comma of Pythagoras - project P5 from say
c-g-d-a-e-b-f#-c#-g#-d#-a#-e#-b# the difference between b# and the c next to
it is the commas of Pythagoras. The projection of P5 never reaches c. The
ratio is 531441:524288 or 24 cents. The commas of Didimus or a syntonic
comma has to do with perfect (harmonic series 3rds) - ratio 5:4 as opposed
to a Pythogarian third - ratio 81:64. There is a book by J. Murray Barbour
called Tuning and Temperment. DaCapo Press-New York 1972

hpschd-l welcome the organ side to the endless, endless wrangle
about tunings and temperaments of which so much, some of it even
informative, can be read in the archives Over There.
