Although this may appear to be a shameless plug since part of the recording
was made on a Dobson organ, I would highly recommend Murray Somerville's
John Knowles Paine CD as an introduction. I was unfamiliar with most of the
pieces on this disc; indeed, five of the works recorded were not published
until five years ago. The Fantasia and Fugue in e is truly heroic, and its
recording at Immaculate Conception shows that that instrument is one of the
grandest on the continent.
