Hi Roy and List,
I've been playing with this for years and I have gotten better at it but let
me give you the simple stuff. The computer has a sound card that you can
input for your stereo system if they are close enough. Most sound cards
today are good enough for the home user. While it and the CD burning
software will let you record I found a program called DC V from
enhancedaudio.com that lets me record and clean up tape hiss and record
pops. They have some preset "scripts" that do the job better than I can with
hours spent at it. Another nice feature is that when you have a recording
that has 3 or 4 tracks on a side you can record the whole side and then the
software will split the tracks up for you.
They have some demo software that you can download and get an idea of what
you can do.
I'll be happy to answer any other questions anyone might have.
