All well and good. But with real pipes, the voicing process, from shop
voicing to tonal finishing, involves physically cutting, bending, and
otherwise modifying the metal, wood, or other pipe material, and can put the
voicer on a razor-thin margin between achieving the desired sound and
screwing up the pipe badly enough to require partial or complete
reconstruction of it.
To the best of my knowledge, there's no digital organ voicing system that
carries the possibility of, say, burning out a chip, or permanently erasing
one's sample data.
You speak of multiple sets of samples for a virtual rank. Okay, that's a
given. But how many samples in a set? I doubt that we're talking about
individually voicing 61 different samples, the way voicing a physical rank
requires individually voicing 61 different pipes.
I can revoice ranks on my little Ahlborn 201 box on a whim, and have done
so. But I can't even imagine myself attempting to voice a rank of real
pipes.
