Ah - The copy of Ms.Armstrong's book which I ordered for my French-
connected friend has arrived, just in time for her reading during
recovery from back surgery.

Most handsome, although a little large and substantial to juggle
in a sickbed. (But then, most of us are.) Not, I think from my
first looks, a book to be read thru at a sitting or two, but
rather one to browse as it was published, in bits and pieces of
gossip. Quite charming ... and my friend remarked with astonished
pleasure at the actual indexing and list of characters.

I got as far as Fannie's failure to recognize the word "plainchant ..."

Recommended; an especially nice gift. Thanks, Agnes.
