Evensong this evening elicited a marvellous response from the
congregation, from which I must surmise that things sounded well down
the nave.
The Stanford in G Magnificat is not a piece in which one has a lot of
leisure time to listen to what's going on; I know the soloist was
good, but it appears that the choral parts were equally advantageous.
I get one of my tenors to do the baritone solo, because it actually
goes quite high and can relatively easily be handled by one such. The
Glorias of both canticles are absolute perfection.
Haven't played the Franck for years. Should haul it out more often.
When I finished the final big blaze I discovered, to my surprise,
that most of the congregation were still there, listening happily,
despite supper being served over in the hall. Tells one something
about postlude selection ....
Cheers
