Yes and no ... illuminated capitals, etc. tend to be fanciful ... like
the one of St. Cecelia playing a portativ that wouldn't have existed
until more than a thousand years after her martyrdom <g>.
OTOH, that DOES give something of a clue as to what organs might have
been like when the capital was illuminated, I suppose.
Organ class was long ago and far away, but I don't recall reading a lot
about Roman organs, aside from that (apocryphal?) story about
Frescobaldi playing a recital for 10,000 people in St. Peter's.
One would have thought that Rome would have been a center of
organ-building, but there seems to have been more going on in the north.
