Dear piporg-lers,
Last month I travelled to Bologna, Italy, for a conference. I
managed to see a small number of pipe organs while there, but heard
none of them. The huge unfinished Basilica on the Piazza Maggiore
has a pair of 16th century organs, but I was unable to find out
anything about the organs of the Cattedrale di San Pietro, Bologna.
There appeared to be a large, presumably romantic organ spread around
the rear of the large apse behind the altar with no casework above
impost level. There was also a modern instrument, my photo of which
can be seen on the News page of The Organ's website:
http://www.theorganmag.com/news.html (click for a larger version).
Web searches have revealed nothing so far, although "no parle
Italiano". I did find a reference to a book entitled "Cattedrale di
San Pietro, Bologna - Il nuovo Organo, Grafiche San Ruffillo".
Does anyone have any more information about either of the organs in
that cathedral?
thanks,
Al
