Thanks, Mac. I was going to suggest Oscar as well. In most of his
live recordings you can detect in the background his humming along.
My organ teacher didn't actually sing along when he performed, but he
sort of 'breathed along' in an unusual way, something I have heard
from others since those days.
This is a trait of many great musicians, who envision the final
product of what they want to convey. They take seriously the
admonition that you should make your instrument 'sing' by singing
along or anticipating what phrasing they want in a sometimes most
audible way. It is in no way unusual.
My problem was always that I could 'hear' the music ideally just the
way I wanted to play it, but never knew if I was actually
accomplishing that ideal. I was never sure I actually heard myself
play! If only my listeners could just channel in on my wavelength,
then it wouldn't matter how good or lousy I was.
