In Canada he was known as "cookie". After his wife died about 15 years ago
he retired from Metropolitan United Church Toronto, returned to England,
visited Toronto several times during his retirement and died in the U.K.
about 10 years ago. I recall the large portrait of him tastefully erected by
the chancel the Sunday after he died and beside the 5 manual Casavant
console in Metropolitan United. Not to be forgotten by anyone who saw it was
the incident of the old choir librarian collapsing in anguish at the foot of
the portrait stand upon viewing it.
