150 years ago this October, Methodist firebrand Rev Phoebe Palmer from New
York led a group of 21 Methodists in a series of fervent prayer meetings in
Hamilton Ontario named the Layman's Prayer Revival. Within a few days the
numbers were up to 400, and the local Methodist churches quickly grew by
over 1,000 percent in size. The New York papers quickly took up the story
and within months Revival Movements sprang up all over the world.
Women's rights, the YMCA, the Salvation Army and much of the anti-slavery
movement came from these humble beginnings.
The 4 main churches involved still exist. Centenary & First(Pilgrim) + Zion
and Wesley (now Church/community centres).
A forgotten bit of history.

P. S. I see no mention of drums or tambourines in the services. But pipe
organs existed in those churches. LOL!
