Dear Glenn and LIST:
While it must seem strange to see such a seeming misspelling from the
shop of Herman the German (a name he was called behind his back...)
that particular stop was so-called because when it was set up in the
shop, the wife of the custodian, Mrs. Anne Kleen, wanted to have her
pictures taken standing in front of the curious looking pipes. She was
quite hard of hearing, and so when Mr. Kleen was trying to get her ready
for him to click the shutter, he had to keep yelling, loudly: "POSE,
ANNE!" "POSE, ANNE!". This got so funny that the name stuck.
Mr. Schlicker was so adept at saying "PO-SOWN-EH" I doubt that he would
have written the word wrong otherwise. HESCO - the wonderful
engraving firm in Hagerstown, once did send a stop-key for a 2'
PPINCIPAL, though.....
