I never thought I would be involved in Pleyel harpsichords, but after a strong plea I took on a restoration of a Pleyel, did all the homework, went through all the motions etc and did a proper job on it, now there's another one in my shop, and I bought two early 1930's specimens. Taken on their own merits, a modern harpsichord, and a very well made one and that, too, I have come to appreciate them, as long as they are voiced properly in good leather, well regulated with just the stagger it needs etc. etc. They are very demanding and complicated, but if everything is done right it is nothing to despise or frown upon, especially if they're used for 20th century music.
