It really is down to small detail.   Shorter plectra are better than long and because I have found they work better I have used slightly more under taper. (3 degrees)   Unfortunately the plectra are only the final stage of a players control over an instrument.   The most important piece in this debate really is the Jack and its design.   Believe me.
