I'm about to restring a Zuckermann Italian virginal made in the late 1970s.
I have the original stringing schedule from the instruction manual
("Numbers 1 through 14 are brass [0.025-0.014]; the rest are tinned mild
steel [0.0145-0.008]").
But on the Claviers Baroques site, the stringing is entirely in brass:
http://www.claviersbaroques.com/CBExpertSSLItalianBoxVirginal.htm
"Italian Box Virginal, eg Zuckermann and similar
This is the 'official' stringing schedule from the kit instructions for
stringing at A=440."
I don't know whether Zuckermann changed their design over the last 40
years, or whether they simply changed their mind on stringing.
Would anyone here have suggestions for such an instrument (designed in
1978)?
Many thanks.
Dennis
