Hello Johnathan,

Good question. You could use a digital caliper such as the iGaging EZ-Cal
IP54 Digital Caliper. This has narrow jaws, as most do, that can fit in the
string band. It's accurate to 0.001" with repeatability of 0.0005". The
reason I mention such a brand is to alert you to stay away from the
infinite cheap calipers for $10 that have flooded the internet. Often these
are OK for large measurements or rough woodworking but down near zero I
have seen many of these that don't give anywhere near the same reading
twice in a row. Cheapies also seem to be temperature sensitive, which is
not good.
