The notes/arguments in the Martinoli album are quite extensive. He says the source of the attributed pieces are from the Forstieri-Steiner manuscript, of two parts. The first part, contributing the bulk of the works, is a Livre de Suittes composted by M. Charman(t) and arranged by Renard of Paris, 1754. The second part is a collection of airs by various authors collected by the same Renard and containing one more attributed to Marchand and one possibly by Marchand.

In the references, there is none for the manuscript. According to Martinoli the MS was discovered in 2003 in a private collection and had been inherited in 1976 from the dissolved Forestieri-Steiner fund. This should provide a small lead.

I am an amateur and have no claim to understanding all this, but if I were researching it, I would ask Davitt Moroney what he thinks about it. Davitt’s comments are always well-informed, carefully reasoned, and beautifully written.
