Well, I found it a little difficult to read the table posted by Phillip
as tables do not format well in an ordinary e-mail. However, if I have
understood correctly:

Note D (core .016" Wdg .012" actual winding pitch .838mm) tension works
out at 7.3 kgf which should be safe.

Note F# (Core .016" Wdg .012" actual pitch .6096 mm) tension would be
*over 12 kgf* and the core wire would break, since the practical maximum
for .016" IWS brass would be around 8.5 kgf.

Similarly Note Bb (Core .016", Wdg .010" actual pitch ).66 mm) tension
would again be over 12 kgf, much too high for the core wire.

I think it is as I said originally: you are putting too much tension on
the core and it will not be safe when tuned to pitch.

I think there is no substitute for calculating the tension of each note
and checking against the known maxima for the core wire. I hope you were
able to locate the article by John Barnes: all the necessary formulae
for calculating tension are there. Good luck, Peter.
