Not only would it be less expensive to drive the instrument yourself
(300 miles) rather than ship it (provided you can spare the time) you
would also have the chance to meet with your builder face to face. I
think it's always a treat to visit a harpsichord maker, and he/she would
enjoy talking with you and getting the history of the instrument you
own. Why build a crate which you may or may not use again? You can
always do that later if needed. And maybe you can even borrow a van
from someone. It could be a fun trip.
