IMHO there is probably more than one reason:
- Geoffroy's pieces explore tonalities with enharmonies and even E and B
sharps, used in major thirds in such a way that even modified meantone
tunings (Chaumont and others) could not avoid awful wolves. Ordinary
musicians would find this music unsavoury, not to say outright unplayable,
and this may be the reason why he did not publish. It is apparent that he
was experimenting with circular temperaments, most likely an early version
of the 18th tempérament ordinaire.
- He was active in Perpignan, far from the "Lullian centre of it all":
Paris, and he was overshadowed by contemporary masters such as Chambonnières
and d'Anglebert, who from the royal court were in a better position to have
their works widely known.
