Oh, for 28%... here in Montreal, without the humidifiers, we're lucky to
hit 10%, and so far, it's been a warm, wet winter for the most part!
And yes, changing temperament never takes any 'settling in'. Changing
pitch by more than a quarter tone might lead to some instability for a
while, but usually nothing a 2nd tuning won't fix. Some instruments are
much more sensitive to large changes of tension though. Some fortepianos
I've dealt with were very hard even to raise from 428Hz to 430Hz,
requiring many retunings before they were at all stable. Some
harpsichords can be adjusted by almost a semitone without any trouble
though. Even on a modern piano, you wouldn't need to wait months for it
to stabilize though!
