This could be a misleading - for while a certain level of urabanization
is necessary for enough deaf people to find each other - for hard-wired
latent language to become actual, incarnate - the 18th c has anyway
among its themes that of Ideal languages and analogue language - which
may account for both the fascination with the dance and with sign
language.
I have to reas Rameau treatise in search of traces of the 'Universal
Characteristic' (which was leibniz' name for the Ideal noise-free
language)
