Dear Chris, and Owen,

Somehow I tend to enjoy these operations, as it is always interesting, what exactly is the problem, where does it originate, what to do about it and how? I've opened quite a few harpsies so far. Once I did a job on a German 2x8' single which had a split board in the treble, and the shorter end had walloped enormously, people started asking if that was the money-slot, ha ha.. Because the wavy bit was so out of control, I first sandwiched the crack area between two padded blocks with a damp cloth on the underside of the board. The next day it was flat and dry again, and I could get busy preparing for shimming. I usually use scaled-to-function go-bars inside the box, and clamp some bar over the instrument so I can again use go-bars on top as well. Depending on everything, I might decide to glue a cotton band-aid over a glue-line. Good luck, enjoy and fix it!
