The usefulness of the tool in question seems obvious to me, as a beginning
student and enthusiast of the harpsichord. My ear is just starting to
become accustomed to the general sound of unequal temperaments; initially,
I must confess, they simply sounded "out of tune" to me, coming from a
background of nearly all ET electronic pop music. Now, I'm interested to
learn and experiment; but which temperament is "better"? Of course, it
depends on the music and the instrument, as well as perhaps my own evolving
preferences. I listen to recordings, recognize that some kind of non-ET
tuning is operative, but which one? Whether I particularly like the sound
I hear, or whether perhaps I find it grating and want to make sure I avoid
that tuning scheme, it would be a real help to get a quick answer from an
electronic gadget, as to which scheme is being used. Re-tuning a full
instrument from one scheme to another, multiple times, might be good
practice, but is not a practical way to try out tuning schemes in different
situations, at least at the start when I have no notion of which of the
many possibilities is likely to sound "good" to me. I vote for more
information wherever available, how can that be a bad thing?
