This device is very simple: When you push the lower keyboard, the foot of the dogleg rests on a small block glued on the lower keyboard, and escapes this block when pulling the lower keyboard;
the system can also work on the other way, that is to say engage the dogleg pulling the lower keyboard, in this case the jacks of 8 'and 4' of the lower keyboard are resting on a block glued on the lower keyboard.
However for easy movement of the lower keyboard, it is better that the upper keyboard is not based directly on the frame of the lower keyboard. We can do the upper keyboard like a drawer, based on both sides in a groove made in the wrestplank support blocks, or with a groove on each side of the upper frame, and a small slide block glued on the internal face of the wrestplank blocks, as Claude Labrèche do in the late 17th (but without coupler).
