A few points of clarification:

1. I did not mean for this to become a topic for discussion. Let's not beat a dead horse.

2. I will concede that the query about orthopaedic surgery was way OT. However, I believe there were only 3 posts, and the topic died quickly. If it had carried on much further, I would have stepped in, but jumping in to crab because of a 3-post thread would have just added another post to a dead topic, and probably generated more discussion. Perhaps I should have done so, but I hesitated and, as usually happens, it died quickly.

3. Apparently I mis-spoke (or mis-typed) when I said that no one else had complained. Somehow I did miss Ray's public complaint, and of course there may have been others who were annoyed but did not complain.

4. Since Andrew chose to "out" himself as the one who objected, I want to make clear that I was not intending to chastise him nor do I mean to discourage complaints. I agree with him that the OS thread was OT, but disagree about the 'where to retire in a musical environment' and 'harpsichord for sale' posts. It is my call as owner how to respond when this kind of thing happens, and perhaps I err on the lenient side. But I don't believe I would ever have sent the kind of public response I did while identifying the person who might be viewed as the "complainer" by others. I don't mind hearing such "complaints" from subscribers because I do sometimes miss things (I have a life) and I do want to respond as appropriate when I feel it is required.
