Indeed, I would never inflict a big tuning on an audience. It would be too much like some baroque orchestras I hear that come out on stage and use the "never be happy even if it's perfectly in tune, keep messing with it" technique that if applied to our harpsichords would make tuning a day-long project!
A couple of notes max, switching the couple of thirds around, is all I would consider, to move from sharp to flat keys. And then, only if covered by an intermission, or in the case of the Froberger Festival with I hosted with friends, by the break for food and wine!
I'm very happy that I started something here. It keeps my mind on pleasant thoughts, among internet friends!

The retuning gig for meantone is also needed for pieces by other composers.
It can be done extremely quickly if you only need to retune e.g. g sharp to
a flat: just scan the piece beforehand and often you'll notice that you only
need to retune no more than 2 notes. Mark those in the beginning of your
music sheet and when the needs arise, within 15 seconds you're done
retuning.
Happy playing!
Chris.
