Dear Gesine, dear Andrew,
Although we've had this topic so often on the List it is obviously still necessary to talk about it.
Andrew and all those others of your opinion, you are right. These modern machines have nothing to do with what the "old guys" did and they're not accurate - BUT:
it's a matter of priorities. I use my Korg to tune my own "ordinaire" (C-5G, G-5D, D-5A, A-5E, E-5B, B-5F#, F#+5C#, C#0Ab, Ab+20Eb, Eb+5Bb,
Bb-5F) but of course I'd love to do a course with a competent teacher to learn it the right way and to learn to HEAR. But for the life of me I haven't succeeded in hearing the beats even tho'I've often tried alone.
Priorities: Our first priority is to play, and enjoy the music.
If I tried without the guiding "gizmo" I'm sure I'd end up somewhere close to ET - after all, we're surrounded by it, aren't we?

Best

Ph.
