Hello Martin,

The rust is above the tuning pin. I don't know whether the block is made from oak of some other material. I'll suggest using a polishing pad.

.. you never told us where exactly the corrosion showed, above or in the plank? I might rather use black/fine polishing pad, the meshed 3M stuff for cleaning up, or fine steelwool when away from the instrument.
