The mylar that came with my Zuckerman Flemish kit back in the 80's was so beautiful I couldn't bear to cut it up as instructed. Instead, I took it to a local drafting shop for diazo transfer to paper.

Of course, I then learned the hard way about the dimensional instability of paper. Alignment issues in the treble were barely salvageable.

We engineers aren't always that smart about physics. David Way wrote fabulous instructions to save we kit builders from many silly errors, but not this one. At least not yet in 1980.

I think it was the discovery of this problem that lead me to call the shop on a Saturday, hoping to leave a message to be returned Monday. To my surprise, some crusty sounding guy answered the phone. When I asked if I might leave a message about a question, he said "Well, I've been answering questions all day, I don't know why I should stop now."

Although this doesn't solve the printing or printing accuracy issue for full size harpsichord drawings, here's a link to an interesting technique for inexpensively scanning large documents using an old flatbed scanner with its lid removed:

The scanning part of the technique would be tedious, but the author references software and a script he wrote to stitch the images together with minimal effort. This method might be worthwhile to copy drawings when reproductions are no longer available.

If I can ever get my hands on a full size Burton plan, I'm going to give this method a try.
