Hi Thomas,
Apart from making harpsichords, I do intensive professional engraving with
lilypond. As I have a background in IT and computer science, I choose
lilypond because it can be extended with the Scheme programming language to
do almost anything conceivable.
Lilypond does not have every last French keyboard ornament and sign or
other Baroque marks, but you an add these with programming extensions. So
lilypond is not limited in this respect, as are the commercial programs (in
particular the recently released Dorico is not extensible by programmers).
If there are ornaments you need, contact me and I would be willing to help
you out. Discussion on this topic is likely better on the lilypond list,
but I just wanted to let HPSCHD-L members know that lilypond is vastly more
powerful than a first glance may lead one to think.
