Hi Claudio,
Statements? Well, right here on this list for instance, by Jan de Groot,
who is quoting statements made and has questions about a passage he is
working on regarding fingering advice he has read/gleaned from experts:

"My question concerned 17th century music by English Virginalists.....From
the latter, and from Davitt Moroney's reaction, I understood that good
fingering should be the outcome of a good
handposition taking into account Davitt's "rule of thumb" (avoid the thumb
where
you can)...."

Such snippets of information, thus stated, can easily be miscontrued by
amateur players trying their best to find an authentic methodology of
finergeing early keybaord pieces. That's all I am trying to say.
Kind regards,
Theo
