For most small-scale music, I’ve always preferred planar dipole radiating speakers. Planar magnetic, ribbon, and electrostatic speakers fall into this category. I owned a pair of Magnepans for several years before switching to my Quad electrostats. I have no financial interest in any of these products, but I am a long-time audiophile and I hate to see people waste money on bad equipment (I’m looking at you, BestBuy).

I’d recommend auditioning the Magnepan .7, which is a tremendous bargain at $1400. When properly set up, these speakers sound much more expensive than they are.
