The Canadian harpsichord player, Gordon Murray, who recently retired
as Professor at the Music University in Vienna (MdW) died in a road
accident in Vienna during the night of Sunday 12th March. Details
are below (in German). Gordon and his wife were returning home in a
taxi late at night with an English friend. The taxi stopped and
Gordon and the friend got out of the right hand side of the taxi
(traffic side) and were hit by another taxi coming the other
direction. Gordon was pronounced dead at the scene and the visitor
died later in hospital. Mrs Murray survived, since she was still in the taxi.
A very tragic end to the distinguished career of a pupil of Leonhardt
and Marie-Claire Alain who himself leaves many pupils. I had the
pleasure of meeting and enjoying conversations with him on several occasions.
