Hi all,
I am planning change from the zither style tuning pins to the smaller more historical tapered type. I've found I can drill new holes in a different location on the wrest plank for the new pins. But, I have never dealt with the those historic type.
About how far should the pins extend into the hole in the wrest plank to work properly? It seems from experimenting I've found that about 1/2 inch (1.27cm) seems good.
The pins I have are 4.1mm diameter. I tried using a #27 drill bit for the hole but seems a bit tight when tapping the pin into the hole, but that would depend on how deep I tap it also -so once again the question arises how deep should the pin go?
Thanks for any comments or advice,
Tom
