I have a Zuckerman concert double from around 1971 with plastic jacks, and they're still going strong--no bending, , no cracking, no problems whatsoever. In the roughly dozen years I've had the instrument, they've never been a problem and, over that time, I've had only a single plectrum and two strings that I needed to replace. Unlike wooden jacks, there's no need for seasonal readjustment of jack height to account for expansion and contraction of the wood. Other than the fetish of having everything 'authenticke,' I'm really not quite sure what the fuss is all about for wooden jacks--a comment that I'm sure will provoke a flurry of responses.
No offense meant, Bruce, but if you try to claim the age of the plastic jacks as a reason for getting a discount, I think you'll simply be laughed at and thought not a serious buyer.

Thank you all for your responses. I feel a lot more confident now. I am going to suggest to the seller that the instrument may very well be in need of new jacks in the near future and see if she will therefore come down on the price.
