Absolute right: almost a hundred of lovely instruments very well displayed.
Probably the 3rd most important keyboard collection in Italy (after the
well-known ones in Milan and Rome).
HOWEVER, I have been there very recently, and I would like to share some
caveats:
- This is a huge collection of ITALIAN harpsichords: very rarely will you
find anything like stop knobs, 4' stops, buff stops or two manuals. It is
mostly 8'+8'.
- Young players with the right local connections can even arrange local
small-ensemble recitals playing some of the instruments. For outsiders
things are much more difficult.
- Actually, even with the presence of the harpsichord maker in charge of
restorations, you are not allowed to play the instruments, neither can he
play a single note for you!
- The staff are well behaved, but they seem to be there mostly just to say
"no". They were not even interested to know who was this man asking strange
things, what was my name, profession or where I came from.
- They repeated a suggestion I already had by telephone: to send a personal
request by email to Mr Tamminga (a well known organist), who is the curator.
Needless to say, I did this two months ago and I am still waiting ...
By all means do visit the place, but you have been warned.
