Some may be interested in the homemade version of the Hacklinger magnetic gauge (pretty expensive) that can be made fairly inexpensively. You can find plans for this on the Musical Instrument Makers Forum, www.mimf.com , in the "original" library of archived discussions. My friend Alain Bieber has also designed an electrical device for measuring thickness based on magnets that can be seen in the newer library of archived discussions. You have to register to access the library, but it is free. Most discussions revolve around guitar construction, but all other instrument makers can find a place on the forum.
